Nonostante sia nata nel New Jersey, la cantante di R&B Adeva ha guadagnato inizialmente notorietà in Australia ed Europa con il singolo “Respect” che raggiunse la 17a posizione delle classifiche inglesi nel 1989. I singoli seguenti, “Warning” e “I Thank You” ebbero altrettanto successo, portandola a registrare l’album d’esordio “Adeva!” che vinse dischi di platino e d’oro in tutta l’Europa. Gli album “Love or Lust?” e “It Should Have Been” hanno determinato la sua importanza come voce nella scena R&B. Nel 1995 ha cantato in “Welcome to the Real World”, l’album dance di Frankie Knuckles.
